Dental Implants In Oakbrook Terrace, IL

Missing Teeth and Dental Implants

Dental implants are an effective method of replacing teeth which have been severely damaged or lost altogether. Whether it is a multitude of teeth, or just a single tooth, it can be replaced; it is also a more permanent solution for both removable partial and complete dentures. The implants create and provide a stable support fixture for numerous other dental appliances once they’re completely stabilized and fused with the bone.
Restore Missing Teeth with Dental Implants
Essentially, dental implant procedures supplant the natural roots of the teeth, and are usually made of titanium alloy, for longevity & strength. Your friendly Oak Brook dentist, Dr. Haque would carefully insert these artificial roots into the upper or lower bones as necessary for treatment. The attached tooth, which is visible to the eye, are nearly identical to natural teeth, and are every bit as durable & long lasting as the original teeth they replaced. However, as can be expected, some small amount of readjustment or replacement may be necessary over a long period of time due to normal wear & tear. Dental implant advantages and disadvantages are:
  • Repair a patient’s natural smile
  • Mitigate bite misalignment or pain from tooth displacement into gaps formed by missing teeth
  • Restore natural digestion, normal speech, and chewing actions
  • Heal and restore tissues in the face
  • Provide support for dentures and bridges, increasing their stability and comfort
  • Supplant teeth which are missing, all without adversely affecting nearby teeth
  • Multiple appointments over the course of a few months are necessary for the procedure

Dental implants necessitate a few visits spanning over several months’ time. First, the dentist will arrange for essential x-rays and bite impressions to be taken in order to assess whether there is sufficient space, and favorable gum and bone condition to insert the implant. Local anesthesia is administered to the site, the implant is surgically inserted, and a lengthy time (usually six months) is allowed for the body to integrate with the new implant and for the gum tissues to fully heal. A second surgery may be prescribed, dependent on the implant used, and the patient’s condition, which involves fixture of a post in order to affix the artificial tooth in place. Some, but not all, dental implants include both the post and anchor in one unit, so that they can be inserted simultaneously.

Once several weeks of healing have passed, the new artificial teeth are affixed to the posts of the dental implants. A number of appointments may be necessary, and this process may take up to two months to complete. Afterward, the new teeth are permanently cemented to the implants, providing a superb level of stability, appearance, and strength for the patient.

A great program of oral hygiene, coupled with healthy eating habits and scheduled visits will ensure many years of lasting use from the new “teeth”. When your treatment is done by Oak Brook dentist Dr. Haque, you will receive a thorough review of the best practices, as well as dental implant alternatives, in order to keep your new teeth in top condition.
